Toyota Prius battery replacement
Of course, but what do batteries cost to replace? Is a frequently asked question to owners of hybrid and electric vehicles. It is true that batteries are not expensive and at some point they will have spent their useful life and will need to be replaced. But what do these packages actually cost, if and when does this replacement date come? We’ve already looked at the cost of replacing batteries in the 2001-2003 Toyota Prius of the first generation, but with several other hybrids on the market at Toyota, we wanted to investigate further.
This article was first published in August 2012 and has proved very popular. We have updated it with the latest prices in June 2016. The first and most reassuring you should know about these batteries is that replacement is rare. Toyota told us that engineers consider NiMH batteries in Prius and other Toyota hybrids as a component of the car’s life. It could be several owners and hundreds of thousands of miles in the line before the package does not require replacement, in which case the car itself might be overtaken.
This is stunned by stories like Ford Escape hybrid taxis of 300,000 miles, and Consumer Reports recently tested a Prius of 215,000 miles in 2003 and found that its performance had barely diminished. In the latter case, the only component that needed to replace was a fan belt, at 127,000 miles. Toyota has clearly confidence in its batteries and offers an 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty in most states. In states that adopt California emission regulations, which amounted to 10 years / 150,000 miles. Thus, in the worst case, any battery failure or a significant drop in performance will be covered by the warranty for up to ten years.
Battery for Toyota Prius 2004-2009, Second Generation PhotoCore Charger 2009-2009 Toyota Prius Pack, Second Generation If the worst comes to worst and your battery needs to be replaced, there is a last Toyota silver lining, known as \base credit\. This is a deduction from the new MSRP battery pack to return the old battery to recycle. It is not only better for the environment that the battery is thrown away when it is replaced, but in a car like the Prius, it reduces the cost of a new battery by about one third. The only additional cost is that of labor, which varies between cars and labor rates that vary depending on where you live. Below is a list of MSRP battery cost details for the various Toyota Hybrid models available since 2001.
Battery replacement costs were not immediately available for most models of 2016, or for the 2012-2015 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid. Labor rates differ from vehicle to vehicle, and vary by location, but the customer will likely pay more hours than the minimum number of hours for which Toyota will reimburse dealers as collateral. The lowest reimbursement rate is 1.3 hours for a 2012-2016 Prius C package, but customers will likely be charged for 2.0 to 3.3 hours in this case. On the high end, Toyota reimburses a dealer for 3.7 hours of work to replace a 2011-2013 Highlander Hybrid battery, but customers can be charged from 5.6 to 9.3 hours.
